Learning from revolutionary nonprofit and education leaders who are determined to improve Israel’s education system and bring Jewish and Arab children together to create solutions to complex problems ĥ. Partaking in celebrations and reflective activities centered around the Jewish traditions of Shabbat and Havdelah ģ. Riding ATVs across the Israeli-Syrian border to explore complicated geopolitical issues and national security Ģ. Myers said some of the highlights of the journey for him included:ġ. I learned that there is much more to the Jewish people and the state of Israel than the Holocaust, Palestine and Hanukkah, although we did explore those topics throughout the journey.” Of this once in a lifetime experience, Myers said, “REALITY Revolve proved to be a transformative experience that allowed me to further develop my leadership skills, explore solutions to complex problems and engage with revolutionary nonprofit and education leaders from throughout the land of Israel. Myers traveled to a variety of locations with historical, political and religious significance, including: Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, the Dead Sea, Haifa, the West Bank, the Golan Heights, the Western Wall, the Israeli-Syrian border, Jaffa, Mount Carmel, Mount Bental ( “the Valley of Tears”), Masada, etc. They also travel back to an ancient and historical time that is simultaneously bustling with life and energy in the modern world. Participants learned how Israeli society devises innovative solutions to deal with deep-rooted and multi-dimensional social and economic challenges. He joined a diverse group of 31 other Americans, four Ghanans, three Colombians, two Mexicans, two Vietnamese, and two Spaniards on this journey.Īs its website points out, the REALITY experience brings inspiring change-makers from around the globe on a transformative journey through Israel to reignite their passion and potential for repairing the world. Out of hundreds of applicants, Myers was one of 45 educators to be selected to be part of the international coalition of teacher leaders who participated in this year’s program. REALITY explores Jewish history and culture and how each relates to the founding of the state of Israel. Revolve was a free, 10-day journey to Israel centered around leadership and identity development with other Teach For America corps members and Teach For All program participants. ![]()
